bon appetit!

In April, my family, Alex and I went to a Menu Tasting. All the engaged couples getting married at the Chateau and their families were invited to taste a selection of the 2011 wedding menu. This was just a sample... but we loved it so much we decided to go with exactly what was served. So here is what we will serve on our wedding day!

To start, appetizers with the cocktails...

And then, dinner starts:

A parmesan and black olive salad.

Followed by Champagne Salmon topped with shrimp and a pastry bread.

Then there was a Limoncello Granite, which I didn't take a picture of. My bad.

And the main course...

Veal with a mushroom sauce and other veggies in an edible bread basket. The meat was very tender and the whole thing was soo good.

For the tasting menu, there was a buffet of desserts. For dessert, we'll have a chocolate cake (not pictured).

And for the Sweets Table, we've decided to go with mini pastries, macarons, fresh fruit, and of course, wedding cake!

I 110% recommend going to your venue's tasting menu. It gives you a good idea of what the service and food will be like, as well as presentation.

To The Clouds

Art by TheExtentOfSilence

Alex and I became homeowners last week. Since then we've been renovating and picking out paint colors. Yesterday we bought the paint for our upstairs rooms - kitchen/dining, living room, entrance, and the three bedrooms. We're going for neutrals that are in style right now with hints of gray in just about everything. Silver gray for the kitchen/dining room, sand taupe and medium-dark gray taupe in the living room and entrance, a soft blue gray in the master bedroom, pink gray in the smallest bedroom (my office), and a gray green in the guest bedroom. We're also shopping around for a new sink - I'd like a double sink - and a new faucet that has the 'spray' option.

It's a very busy, very exciting time. Now that wedding preparations are (more or less) complete, this is another big project to work on. I'm so glad we're giving ourselves the time to do things properly without stressing. Renovate in May, then furniture and moving in June, and then the wedding in July. We're getting there :)

It's the Wedding Day

the Royal Wedding, that is! I set my alarm for 4 AM this morning and my mother, sister and I made tea and coffee and sat in the kitchen together. We watched the guests arrive live to the Westminister Abbey, and we waited for Kate Middleton. And she was beautiful! Absolutely gorgeous.

I love the lace on her dress, and the plunging neckline - very modern. The simplicity and the pleating of the skirt and the perfect-length train. And of course, a prince!

Of course I was going to watch this. It's really the wedding of the century - and I'm getting married this year as well. It was nice to watch it with my mother & sister, completely live on air. I can't wait to see more photos in the days and weeks to come.

Are you watching the Royal Wedding today ?
